Navigating IS101

Checkpoint! Fellow college students, how are you doing with your coursework? I am currently in the middle term of IS101. The first half of IS101, I was consistently behind on assignments. My discussion posts are okay. I am the type to overexplain myself, but perhaps that helps with writing effectively. In other aspects of IS101, I did decent on a presentation that had tolerant requirements. When making the slides for the presentation, I think struggled understanding how to be dynamic with my ideas. I had taken a COM101 class prior, so I have experience in presenting to an audience. The class was not strict on the presentation slides, so I do not have proper experience making slides interesting opposed to lackluster. The main focus of the communications class was how well you presented orally. Considering that, I think I orally presented decent. I had some slips due to nerves from performance anxiety and moderate social anxiety.

Going forward, I need to be more punctual with my coursework. I have an extremely bad habit of waiting till the very last minute. Regardless of how easy or hard the class is, I wait till the last minute. As a way to problem-solve, I have gotten a 52-week planner. As much as Canvas is a good tool, it is terrible for my ADHD. Canvas's way of helping to stay on top of schoolwork, does not help at all. Digital forms of a Calander do not help me stay on top of things. Writing things down is better for my memory to stick opposed to just reading a digital automatic due date system. With a planner, I can plan out everything I do before the due dates. Speaking of Canvas, my class has an exam coming up. I am not confident in getting a good grade. I think I will get at least a C. My plan to study for it is revisiting chapters and using the practice tests the learning platform, LabSim, provides.

A topic introduced in IS101 that I have prior experience in is headers and footers. This topic was featured in chapter "4.11.1 Headers and Footers," Microsoft Word Pro provided by LabSim. In previous education, I was taught to use headers and footers with only page numbers. Typically, on the right column of the header or footer. From this section, I learned that three-columned footers and headers exist. As well as the fact that an automatic feature that inputs the document title is a tool instead of manually typing it, and how to make the title page to not have any headers or footers.

My Hatsune Miku Figurine collection on my PC desk

I was not kidding about my Hatsune Miku obsession. Do not mind the cup that is holding up my microphone arm. The arm was supposed to be of good quality, but it did not hold up well even though my microphone is not that heavy. Eventually I will replace it with a new one with a whole different microphone.

  1. Thank you for including a link to American Psychiatric Association's ADHD webpage!

Glad to hear you are using your own planner to help combat ADHD. I hope this also helps you with your bad habit of doing things last minute :-)

Yes, there's lot more than page numbers that you can display in headers and footers ^_^

Did you know Hatsune Miku is married? Have you seen these two videos?

  2. Its going good, I'm ready for the semester to end though. I have a couple of friends and family members that battle with ADHD, so I can imagine it could be difficult at times. You will do great on your exam, Audrey. Good luck!

  7. That's a very honest response, and I agree with you; moving forward, being punctual will help with lots of things, and it's a great use of links on "ADHD".
