The Death of Me

In my IS101 class I had to relearn and learn more of Excel. What I had learned prior pales in comparison to when I learned it in high school. To be fair when I learned it in high school, it was definitely just a brief run down because the focus of the class was performing binary code, using excel to make spreadsheets from scratch with formulas, and more. I only had to use PEMDAS, and other math was involved. The class did not require us to use the other millions of formulas that Excel has. I believe I got an A in that class. My least favorite part of that class was ironically, the binary coding. It was made simplified for us using a program for learning it. However, I hated it. This time around with Excel… It was the death of me. I did not hate every second, but I was frustrated to say the least.

In addition to having to do LabSim for Excel, there was complementary assignments to do. A more specific assignment I had to do was called “Spreadsheet Analysis with Trailer.” When doing this assignment, I had a medium difficulty with completing it. Because I did this assignment after going through all of Chapter 5 Excel in LabSim, I was more confident and comfortable completing this assignment.

While completing Chapter 5 in Excel, I enjoyed a section called “Addition and Average.” Because I had that class prior in high school, this section felt like a walk in the park. A recap, if you will. Especially considering I had to complete Excel worksheets by scratch with a prompt. There was no set data that was told to us to use. We were just given a problem and told to figure out what and where we place the data. This section was particularly easy. Even if I was not in a place where I was relearning, it is a pretty easy section.

I do not think I will be using spreadsheets any time soon outside of an educational environment. I might end up using what I learning in this class into other classes or a future job. However, I predict I will not be using what I learned into a future job because I do not want to be in a business or reception environment.

With my next chapter and complementary assignments, I think it will be less straight forward and more enjoyable than the Excel chapter. The main reason being the next chapter is on PowerPoint. It might be a little boring because it is so simple, but still enjoyable nonetheless. I will not be able to express my creativity in the LabSim sections, but with the complementary assignments that is where my creativity will shine. Because it is easy I plan to take it slow and complete it to the best of my abilities.
